Gettit Launches with Selfie Verification Powered by our verification AI — Every Profile Is a Real Person
April 2, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK, NY — APRIL 2026
Gettit, the privacy-first dating app launching in New York City this spring, today announced that selfie verification — powered by facial comparison AI — is a core part of the Gettit experience, not an optional add-on reserved for premium subscribers.
The feature compares a user’s live selfie against their profile photos at the time of signup, confirming that the face in the photos belongs to the person creating the account. Verified users display a green checkmark badge visible to everyone on the platform.
The Bot and Catfish Problem Is Industry-Wide
- Tinder has faced years of criticism over bot accounts, automated swiping, and fake profiles used for scams and spam
- Bumble introduced a photo verification feature but it remains optional
- Grindr’s profile system has long been vulnerable to fake accounts, with no face-matching verification
- Hinge offers optional ID verification in select markets, but it’s not a standard part of onboarding
The result: users on every major platform routinely encounter profiles that don’t represent real people. For a community that values authentic connection, this is a foundational failure.
“We made a simple promise: if you’re on Gettit, you’re a real person. Every profile you see has been through verification. We built the infrastructure to keep that promise at scale — because trust is the whole product.” — Jax Sterling, CEO & Co-Founder, Gettit
How Gettit’s Verification Works
- User uploads a selfie during or after the signup flow
- Our facial comparison AI compares the selfie against each uploaded profile photo, returning a similarity score
- A similarity threshold determines whether the photos and selfie are a match — confirming the account holder is the person in the photos
- Verified badge is awarded and displayed on the profile card and profile detail view
- Photos uploaded after verification are re-checked to maintain ongoing integrity
The selfie itself is not stored as a profile photo — it’s used only for comparison and then discarded. No biometric data is retained beyond the operational verification process.
Part of a Multi-Layer Safety Stack
Selfie verification is one layer of Gettit’s comprehensive safety infrastructure, which also includes:
- Azure Content Safety CSAM detection on every photo upload
- NCMEC CyberTipline integration for mandatory reporting
- AI-powered NSFW moderation pipeline
- Human moderation queue for escalated reviews
- Real-time ban enforcement via server-side access control
Selfie verification confirms who you are. The broader safety stack governs what you post. Together they create a platform where both the profiles and the content are held to a higher standard than any competitor.
No Biometric Data Retention
Gettit does not store biometric templates or facial recognition embeddings. Our verification API is called at the point of verification, returns a pass/fail result, and the selfie photo is discarded. Users’ faces are verified — not catalogued.
This approach is designed to comply with biometric privacy laws including Illinois BIPA and similar state-level frameworks.
